Chasing a Blaze in the Northern Sky Session 28 Summary

Having promised their tag-along Desdaimonia ages ago that they would take her to her homeland of Cycladea, the Combative Companions set off on their ship in search of the ports of one of it's multiple islands, Dolonia. Travelling the ocean is never an easy tasks however. From horrid weather to pekish sea monsters, the party sailed cautiously waiting for something to challenge their travels, until finally, an illusive threat crept onto their ships sulking from the shadows of their sail. It was a gambling wizard.

No one was entirely sure how he had arrived, but Zanorak seemed to have anticipated his arrival as the man approached, offering to gamble away his own magical spells and items in exchange for others. With magic being a hard tool to acquire most were reluctant to participate, but Randon chose to test his luck against the wizard, offering the Hairs of Vrikodara and successfully earning the  Sigil of Horus. Halthor was not so lucky however, losing the single charge ray-gun, and gaining nothing as a result. With no one wanting to risk losing anything else, the wizard takes his leave, and the party continue sailing.

A few days later their ship is assailed in the middle of the night as the party resurface from their rooms to discover a massive whale with teeth like knives resting on the boat, slowly sinking it. Desperate to subdue the beast without getting close to its horrific mouth, Randon uses his ring to try and bind the creature, and surprisingly, it worked. With the whale being their largest catch yet Halthor joyful plays the hymns of their homeland as they force the whale to rhythmically stroll along with them to Dolonia.

All is well until they reach the docks of Saliagos Village. A group of men came sailing towards them. At first they were not sure if the men were hostile, but as they came closer, it became apparent that they were no here to fight the party. Rather, they wanted to fight the giant killer whale that was trailing them the entire time. Now, before they had even began sailing Desdaimonia provided a decent bit of information involving Cycledea, and among the things discussed, she had warned them of a group of cultist known as the Likas. Feared and hated men who worshiped chaos and ate the flesh of men. Too excited to flex on the sailors with his mastery over the whale however, Randon proceeded to tell them that he has conquered the whale. Halthor is barely even able to play a tune for the whale to dance to before the men start jumping to conclusions, and with one blasts of their war horn the group are now branded as borderline terrorists.

Oops.

When word gets around about this, the party could have a very hard time settling in Dolonia at best, and may be hunted down by a military at worse, so, they set out to a distant shore on the island in search of King Agamemnon, who they hope they may be able to speak to about the matter. It was a long shot plan, but it's not like they had any better ideas at the time. As they sailed through the increasingly worse weather however, tragedy struck as Kanut the Wide found himself electrocuted via the metallic spear he was carrying in the midst of a storm. It was an utterly horrific event...that Morrigu would take advantage of as she later devoured Kanut's body in the midst of his funeral, hoping to gain some of his girthy broadness. But that's an event that happened in the future. For now, they need to see if they can find someone of noteworthiness to talk with, which unsurprisingly doesn't work at. The guards at the King's palace refuse to let them so much as enter let alone talk with the King, and after some light heckling the group is forced to leave.

Light heckling and a slightly bruised ego is enough however to make Halthor take a stand to their claims of the CeeCee's being "all bark and no bite". He hasn't had to fight anything in a while and was feeling pretty healthy as a result, so he had asked the man who made this claim if he wanted to duel. Seeing that Halthor was an entire head shorter than him, he eagerly agreed, ready to embarrass the holyman in front of his peers. So, the two men stripped naked for some pankration (which Halthor did not actually know the rules to), and Halthor proceeded to break the man's leg after he was punched in the face.

Oops.

Thankfully this man, who would tell Halthor is named Kroton, did not seem to be bitter over the ordeal. They had shook hands afterwards, and hoping to make up for the broken leg, Halthor decided to try carousing for the first time in months with the man. Considering the group are already walking on eggshells, they can only hope that Halthor doesn't make matters worse in his drunken stupor.

Session 28 Downtime Events

The Combative Companions hid from the flooding and the storms within Dolonia, each of them seeking different goals. The flood-storms continued for four days and then ceased.

Halthor choose to join Kroton and a few of his friends in drinking across libations. Rather than the usual mead that filled his throat, Halthor and his companions emptied jugs of wine down their throats. During their drunken revelry, Halthor learned of a Dolonian warband arriving from Saliagos village through the flood waters. Through slurred words Halthor learned that the events of Saliagos had reached King Agamemmnon's ears.

While Turni sought to find out the location of the Oracle, Bodhi encountered other north-men in Dolonia. While traveling through the streets, he was approached by several men with braided hair and beards who recognized his armor and shield of northern make. Bodhi recognized them as Geats, and the north-men reminisced together about mead and Vodim's rites.

Randon prepared the sorcery he had won from Irtyu at a game of dice. Repeating the ancient rites of the Solar Pharaohs he prepared the casting of the Sigil of Horus into an amulet of a hawk.

Hidding himself beneath his cloak, disguised as a beggar, Zanorak sought to learn of Dolonia. Slipping silver into the hands of other beggars he amassed information on it's inhabitants, dangers, and sacred sites.

Morrigu returned to her companions on day 17 of fall month 2. As cold winds blew and rain clouds gathered beneath the full moon, surprising her companions with rippling muscle and the eyes of Kanut the Wide gazing back at them.

They learn the following information about the Dolonia:
1) King Agamemnon sits upon the throne of Dolonia, his brow heavy after repelling the failed Likasan invasion.
2) Two great temples are found near the Dolonian Palace. Men of Law venerate Athenapalada, while men of Chaos worship Hekatapotropa.
3) A clan of Geatish merchants live near the ports of Dolonia, ferrying gods between Cycladea and Geatlandia.
4) Upon an isle to south of Dolonia stands a Temple of Law to Aekis.
5) Ghosts are said to haunt the mountain pass to Skarkos.
6) Amid the mountains north of the Dolonian Palace, are shrine sacred to the three goddesses.
7) A tribe of Cyclops hide away amid the western hills of Dolonia.
8) The Oracle is found along the south-western reaches of Dolonia, roughly a day's travel west from Filakopa Village.

Rumors gained during downtime:
1) Off the western shores of Dolonia is an ilsand where the Wizard Hermes-Trigemenes ascended to the inverted hexagon.
2) Pygmalion's grave was found ransacked and five corpses were found in a pool of blood within.
3) Sailors whisper of Dog-headed baboons stealing away men to sacrifice to their dark gods amid the woods of Notos.
4) Two stars fell upon an ilse to the northeast of Dolonia and now a forest of red-weed stands.
